The Ancient Artisan Leisure Black Tea tea is the result of our friendship with mister Zhou. It went without many words (‘I love tea, I like you’) and we were allowed to help him promoting one of the most unique black teas you’ve ever found. Guaranteed picked from ancient tea trees with an age between 800 and 1200 years old, processed in small batches by the villagers. When I drink this tea, my mind wanders off: to the thousand years, to the virgin forest on the top of the mountain, to mister Zhou his life and to the ten thousand things. The taste and feeling of all this are quite addictive.
Ancient Artisan Leisure Black Tea from our biodiverse tea mountain, this tea from the 1000 year ancient tea trees nearby Dali, Yunnan province. Grown at an altitude of 2000 meter. When he was young, mister Zhou hardly ever drank good tea. Only when he was in his thirties, tea found him. This changed his life completely, he became one of the protectors of the then thousands of things, he felt all have a soul. Magically he was rewarded: high on the mountain behind the village where he was born, a tea king and tea queen, and their offspring revealed themselves to him. For two thousand years, they stood there, in the forest. The first people who had seen them told mister Zhou that they never changed: they didn’t grow taller, they didn’t grow wider. They only followed the seasons.
For months mister Zhou climbed the mountain and meticulously recorded every single ancient tea tree. Only after this work was finished he asked the villagers to help him pick some of the leaves and make tea. You can imagine what the first sip of this tea would have tasted like to him.
As the protector of this amazing tea area, mister Zhou won’t allow more than one harvest per tree per year. And when the tea is picked, nobody in the whole area is allowed to kill an animal or cut down a tree: to respect the soul of the ten thousand things.
This tea has multiple health benefits ranging from anti-cancer, anti-aging, to lowering blood pressure and even can clear bad breath. It is a cooling tea so it is especially great if you have been eating fried foods which are heating for the body. Also, a good summertime tea to cool off from the heat.*
