Shana is the most knowledgeable person I have ever met in the tea world. New level in Gongfu cha!!!

I received your fantastic book as a gift from my beloved friend, Anna Wagner, the owner of Flyng Bird Teahouse. I just finished reading your book. It's awesome, how you walk the Chadao and you feel the connection between every being. It's really not only about tea... It's a way of living, it's a way of creating a reality of balance and harmony. With the knowledge I read at the book, my tea drinking habits developed to a new level: just to mention one from the many helpful inspirayion: with the using of different water handling methods a completely new attention arrived to my gongfucha: the tea received a new level of attention, filled with more focused energy, and it's taste and energy became completely different than before. I'm preparing the teas with it, counting the seconds but put my hand on the gaiwan or teapot and can exactly feel the qi. The tea communicates with me, and "telling" me energetically, if it's ready to drink. Awesome experience...

A thoroughly enjoyable read

This book is a quick read. We actually completed it during one rainy afternoon. "5 Element Tea" is my first book related to the world of tea growing, and it gave a really fascinating overview of tea production, how and when to drink tea, and how much is enough to maintain good health. A thoroughly enjoyable read, that covers the subject of tea as deeply as you want to go --- either as an interesting subject to peruse; or if you examine the charts a little, then as a good solid instruction for the beginning Tea hobbyist. Would highly recommend this book for either type of reader.

Very Educational, But With Some Questions Unaddressed

Generally, this is an excellent book that explains clearly how and why a particular tea category belongs to one of the Five Elements, and how we should drink from a particular tea category at specific times of the day and season. Reading this book has helped me fine-tune my tea drinking process, and explain why my body has certain reactions when I drink a certain tea at a certain time. However, I feel that there are some questions raised in the book that are not but should be addressed to make a more comprehensive book. Like: 1. The book has a brief mention of how to brew tea according to the Five Elements, and you have to take the online course to learn more since some things are better explained visually than on words. However, I don’t see any mention of how a modern-day busy person in the office can brew tea using this method, and since so many of the world’s population live in cities, this would be helpful information. 2. The book categorises white tea and pu’er tea according to the Five Elements. However, pu’er has both raw and ripe types, and their properties change after years of storage. Similarly, white tea can also be aged, and aged white tea’s properties are so different from a fresh white tea. Do these aged teas then still remain as they are categorised in the book? Because that then changes whether we drink these aged teas at the recommended times or not. 3. Tie Guan Yin is classified as a ‘yin’ tea in the book. Is the book referring to ‘traditional production’ TGY or ‘new production’ TGY? Anyone who has ***** TGY long enough will know that the production method of TGY was changed rather recently. Both traditional and new production TGY taste different and have different properties, and based on the definition given in the book, I am not inclined to agree that traditional production TGY is a ‘yin’ tea. Therefore, what should I drink? 5. Finally, the book assumes that the reader comes from a country with four seasons, and hence there are recommendations on what to drink each season. Then, how about readers who come from countries with no four seasons? Additionally, the book also distinguishes between summer and late summer. Then, for countries like mine which is basically summer throughout the year, what and when is summer vs. late summer, and what do we drink? In conclusion, while the book is excellent material on what tea to drink and how to drink it for optimal health, it also raises some questions that should be addressed. If not, it confuses readers who may then just go back to drinking whatever they feel like drinking since that is more convenient and straightforward, which ironically, then defeats the purpose of the book to begin with.

The 5 Element Tea is the book give a brief introduction of what is ancient Chinese tea knowledge and concept of how to choose, brewing and drink tea accurately. Base on this knowledge, you are able to follow the rule to find the right tea for yourself. But for the brewing in the office, you still can choose basic ancient Chinese tea brewing teawares to make the simple brewing. If you wish to use a sort of tea brewing machine or any kind of fast brewing methods can meet these rules, we have to say you won't able to find it. The modern busy office life is the lifestyle actually competely against human nature, it's impossible you can find the perfect balance between the modern busy life with slow life. The 5 Element Tea is trying to sharing the concept of how human's should slowing down their life and cherish the tea or any natural things wish fully attention, not just use it as method and continuing rush in your life. 2. Regards to the Puer tea, we have clear explanation between the Raw puer tea and Ripe Puer tea (Fermented one), what's the difference they have and how the different 5 elements they belong to and how to choose and brewing them accurately, maybe you can review it to find the details. Regards to the White Tea, yes it is different years of aged white teas are actually will change and belongs to the different elements. The aged tea is another big project takes years to complete the details of explanation, so we don't mention this context in the book. not only white tea, different types of tea, made by different processing, made from different leaves, stored in a different condition, been aged in a different time, but the function will also totally different. Apologize won't able to answer this question in details in this book, it will take at least a few years of training so that can answer your question in clearly. Once again, the 5 Element Tea is trying to help people to get the basic concept of how to find the accurate teas for themselves in general based on the ancient Chineses science of 5 Element theory. TGY belongs to Oolong tea. Oolong tea is one of the most complex tea in Chineses tea categories. Because of Oolong tea's production relates many different types of tea varieties and different kind of methods, and similar situation as above questions you have, the agining process will giving the different result and leading the tea go to different elements direction. When you get confused about TGY or any other kind of teas, there is always two types of tea suitable for you to drink when you don't know what to drink: Fermented Puer Tea (Ripe Puer Tea) and Yellow Tea. Truly, in your country wherever you are, the locals always have their own way of finding the traditional herbs or foods for their health needs. And in 5 Elements system, the 4 seasons affecting the Earth over the whole year is explained well. One thing you need to remember is that no matter how many seasons you have, things still behave according to Yin and Yang.
