“When the sages in ancient times taught the people, they emphasized the importance of avoiding deficiency-evil and keeping the mind free from avarice. In this way, the body will be in harmony, essence-spirit will remain inside, and diseases will have no way of occurring. Therefore, people in ancient times all lived in peace and contentment, without any fear. They worked but never overstrained themselves. They didn’t desire high positions and lived simply and naturally. That is why improper addiction and avarice couldn’t distract their eyes and ears; obscenity and fallacy couldn’t tempt their minds. Neither the ignorant nor the intelligent and neither the virtuous nor the unworthy feared anything. Such behavior accorded with the tenets for cultivating health. This is the reason why they all lived to over one hundred years without any signs of senility. The tea life’s essence is that despite the chaos in the world, we can keep our fundamentals and clarify our pure nature without mixing with external things. Tea helps us cultivate our mind, keep our innocence and simplicity, be free from our innermost thoughts, and be open and honest with no deceit in our hearts so that even if we are in a prison, we can achieve endless freedom.”

Jing (精), as essence, exists in everything, as the primal substance or original source from which anything is made and which exhibits the true nature of that thing. In animals or humans, it means the very original and essential source of life and growth. The big difference between a wild tea tree and an ancient tea tree is that ancient tea tree usually refers to cultivated tea plants that have been grown over hundreds of years. Wild tea tree refers to trees originally grown from wild seeds and in wild conditions without disturbance by human beings. This type of tea tree is usually genetically diverse and rare. It’s highly valuable, and it’s important that we search out and protect this type of wild tea tree.
